Nevertheless, par excellence, one of the greatest watchmaking house, the one before which all bow when it passes, whose value grows and grows with time, has turned 175 years.

Thus, this not happened in an ordinary way. Patek Philippe presents a clock with more complications. In fact, they presented no less than 4 different watches (not counting the Metiers d’art) with versions for men and women.

But, in particular, a Great – Enormous – Complication, with no less than 20 complications, some never seen before.

To be precise, what was created in 1839 – The Patek House – the union of labor and commerce, and therefore also nominal, occurred in 1851.

One of those stellar conjunctions in the world of watchmaking that lasted over time and which have astonished all those who like mechanics, and particularly watchmaking.

As 175 years are no small thing, even with the passion that the Swiss have to celebrate any event however small, so they had to do something that lived up to the reputation of these distinguished neighbors of Plan-les-Ouates.

And what they have done overwhelmed both – together as clock to clock.

Let’s take a quick look at the “other” anniversary watches, which we will harvest in successive days, then focus on the piece of resistance:

WORLD TIMER MOON

These watches are available in two diameters (39.8 for the black version and 38 for the diamond version). The automatic world clock includes lunar phases as we had not seen before – where before Patek had a guilloché or enamel sphere.

Now, together with a Moon “Real” that actually “eat” the traveling function, such is its magnetism.

The men’s watch is limited to 1,300 pieces with a price of 46,000 Swiss francs, while the women’s watch is limited to 450 pieces and is priced at 50,000 Swiss francs.

CHIMING JUMP HOURS

Not just jumping hours, also jumping minutes and jumping seconds (or “dead seconds”). A whole ode to precision and mechanical art. And above, every new hour is announced with a bell. The clock breathes classicism, including baroque decoration of the sphere.

GRANDMASTER CHIME REFERENCIA 5175

This is the great piece of Patek Philippe which demonstrate its real power.

In the first place, this watch presents itself  as the most wristwatch Patek ever made, with more complications (20), more size (47.4 x 16.1 mm), more kites (4) plus brand reserve for sonar 30 hours). The box made of 214 pieces, caliber made with 1,366 pieces and 108 rubies …

Main functions:

Grand y Petite Sonnerie

With this complication it marks with sound the hours and the rooms every quarter of an hour (in small mode it would only sound the hours to the point and only the rooms every quarter of an hour). But as I said the sonic can be activated for more than 30 hours before having to wind the clock, and that the quarter of an hour sounds in three gongs (not in two, as usual) with different tones. This requires 50% more energy for each quarter of an hour “blow.”

Repeater minutes and alarm

Double barrels also have energy for the minute repeater, which if activated gives the hours and quarters of an hour in addition to the minutes that have passed since the last quarter of an hour.

The alarm reproduces the entire repeater sequence of minutes.

This complication had never been present in a wrist watch.

Date Repeater

That is to say, when activating this function by means of a pushbutton the clock reproduces the date in intervals of ten days with a double high / low blow and the days with a high blow.

That is: to mark the 24th of the month the clock would do: ding-dong ding-dong and then ding-ding-ding-ding.

Instant perpetual calendar

The calendar sphere features four subspheres arranged around the four digit digital year.

The month at 3 o’clock, the date and the leap years at 6 o’clock and the day of the week at 9 o’clock.

The time appears at 12 o’clock in the subspace of 24 hours and 60 minutes.

Except for the digital year, the whole calendar is moving instantly and at the same time.

The date also appears on the other side of the clock, in the sphere of the lunar phases.

Almost everyone’s opinion, the face is the most beautiful of the watch.

GMT

With the crown to the right we can see a hand for the second time zone, plus a 24-hour dial.

In this same area we can see the two gear reservations (for movement and sonería), the position of the crown (reassembling, alarm or time adjustment), a bell-shaped opening for the alarm (on / off) small round window to show the state of sound mechanism (ie, when it is safe to wind it up or not without damaging it).

And speaking of the box … I have no doubt that the work of the engraver is immense, but the truth, I find it too baroque.

We already saw something like that on the Sky Moon Tourbillon, and it was the talk of the watchmaking world.

It also emphasizes the highly charged of the sphere of sonería compared with the perpetual calendar.

Perhaps it would have been better without the central decoration that imitates the rays of sun in the old engravings.

But in the end, the reading is still very good, and after all I imagine that if you want a sovereign stamp is not enough with mirror polishing.

And if there is a regal wristwatch, this is certainly it.

As always, you can read all the technical details in your complete datasheet, probably the longest you have ever written.

Let’s say finally that they are going to make 7 units, of which they are going to be sold 6 by a mere 2.5 million.

to the lucky ones, and many thanks and many congratulations to Patek Philippe.
